Today Muhammad Ali is laid to rest.
After a nearly 20 -mile long procession through the late boxer’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky — the family and mourners alike gathered in the KFC Yum! Center to reputation the life and bequest of the athlete.
As you know, Ali passed away last-place Friday at persons under the age of 74 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Thousands of devotees lined the street as the procession took the coffin past Ali’s childhood home, the Ali Center, the Center for African American Heritage, and then finally down Muhammad Ali Boulevard.
Will Smith and ex-boxers Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis were honored with being pallbearers for the service. Tyson ended last minute to attend the funeral after anxieties he would be “too emotional.” So sad.
Following the ceremony, their own families – including Ali’s nine juveniles, wife, and two ex-wives — will accumulate for a private burial at Cave Hill cemetery.
What a potent day, and all the more significant, a powerful legacy.
