Kell Brooks reputation has been enhanced despite his fifth-round stoppage win to the world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, says he knew his inventory would rise
Kell Brooks reputation has been enhanced despite his fifth-round strike overcome by the world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. The American broadcaster HBO is keen on obligating the Sheffield boxer one of the main boxers in their stable and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, holds the Mexican superstar Sal Canelo lvarez is his natural next opponent.
Brook, who retains his IBF welterweight belt, will have surgery this week on a broken eye socket it is expected he will make a full retrieval suffered in the second round. But despite that substantial hindrance he leaved the WBA, WBC and IBF champion plenty of problems in the first four rounds until his trainer, Dominic Ingle, stepped in when Brook started taking too many perforates in the fifth, much to the wrath of his followers at the O2 .
Hearn said it was the right decision because Brook will live to combat another day: I always knew that whatever happened in this fight, Kell Brook would compete with Gennady Golovkin, he said.
So if he lost, his stock would increase substantially, and I feel it has. He was terrific and although the devotees didnt like it, but if he shatters that jawbone it is the end of his career.
Peter Nelson from HBO has spoken to me and said: Canelo? And its the natural fight. Kell throws Golovkin the best fight hes had in his vocation and Canelo says: Ill contended Kell Brook and do a better enterprise. Hes got a lot of options.
Brook has until the end of next month to decide whether to keep his welterweight belt but he hinted he is inclined to moved up to brightnes middleweight unless a resentment competitor against Amir Khan materialises at welterweight, because it is so hard to boil down from 13 stone to the 10 st 7lb limit.
Brook said: I imagine my load and my forte will be at 154 lb, light-middleweight. Im unstoppable at that weight, Im looking at the Canelo and Liam Smith WBO world title campaigned next weekend. I would cherish the winner. People have recognized Ive got a big heart in there and Im willing to fight with the biggest punchers. There is so much to give and 154 is going to be my weight.
He acknowledged he felt devastated after falling short in a fight that will go down as a minor classic. Im just gutted, he said. I got caught in the second round and it interrupted my eye socket. One Golovkin is hard enough but when you identify three or four of him out there
It was tough because I was coming back with shoots and I felt I was in the fight. I was upsetting him, I was rocking him, and I could see in his eye the films were suffering him, “but its” getting tough appreciating three or four of him. I deterred tapping my eye to make it into focus then he would whack me on it and it would be back to three, four Golovkins. Im devastated.
The decision of Brooks trainer was roundly booed by the 17,000 followers inside the O2 but Golovkin likewise believed it was the right decision. I think he is smart, I respect his reces, his coach, he said. Seriously, the last round, he cant breathe, he cant move, he was finished.
Golovkins trainer, Abel Sanchez, concurred: Brook got caught with eight or nine clean punches, and while they may not have been ravaging they are the perforates that hurt you permanently. Brook was a warrior, and he wasnt going to give up but you cant give 20,000 managers in the audience impose what happens to a fighter and Dominic Ingle did the right thing.
Golovkin demonstrated he intends to unify the middleweight disagreement by including the WBO belt of Britains Billy Joe Saunders and the 27 -year-old from Welwyn Garden City said he would be willing to placed his belt on the line.
Saunders said: I am ready for the fight. Im going to fight on October 29 but then I will be set to face him.
Whatever date Golovkin wants to do I will be ready. He is a great champion but I have seen enough mistakes that I know I can uncover when we campaign. I know I am the fight he craves but he should know that Im a fully fledged middleweight and Kell Brook is a welterweight. There is no welterweight here.
